I have always been fascinated by product naming. Some of the best players at this game are pharmaceutical brands.

Often as internet marketers thinking about SEO we often go for the most descriptive names we can find. If 2-3 words describe your product like say “vaginal cream” you would try to get the domain and name your product that as well. I think it’s cool when companies make up words to describe their products, even better is when they take the descriptive words and use pieces of them to make a hybrid word.

The holy grail for me is when a company can turn a turd of descriptiveness into a golden hybrid name. Case in point…

Copyright © 2002-2007 Pfizer Inc.

See the good folks at Pfizer want to help women with menopause which I think is awesome (we men have it WAY too easy). So their scientists discovered Premarin®, a cream that prevents dryness which is good for men and women.

So why is Premarin® such an awesome name from a marketing perspective?
Because it’s a hybrid of 3 words that may have you rethink rubbing it on your vagina.

Wait for it…

Pregnant Mare’s Urine

That’s what it’s made from. Oh and it also comes in tablet form. I wonder if they offer chewables…

I know Menopause is a serious issue. I have good friends and family members dealing with it. But we have to laugh out loud at this “hiding in plain sight” naming concept.

Well done Pfizer…

I can’t help but wonder the product names that were considered but just didn’t make the cut. I will share some that came to mind while writing this, please do, add your own to the comments

Preghorspis

Femhorspe

Horsmompis

Mommymarewiz

Pisfromare

Pregorsein

Knockedorsepis

Promhorsine

Naming products is fun, even more fun when you are trying to disguise that your product is pure piss.

I have been reading the Steve Jobs biography and I have been pleasantly surprised by how he handles dealing with the media, customers etc.

In my business, I have to deal with selling things in public marketplaces where anyone can respond to my sales copy no matter how intelligent. Even the private emails we get from clients can sometimes be not only stupid but also accusatory and heated.

I get it. The internet is full of scams (or so we all think). So as soon as some people part with their money they think they are being “scammed”.

Sadly these people go on the offensive sometimes before and sometimes after the sale. Often before even properly reviewing the offer they just bought or want to buy and make accusations and draw conclusions about the offer before educating themselves.

In the last week alone we have been threatened with jail, exposing the truth, lawsuits, Dateline NBC, the better business bureau and more. All from people who were too stupid to read over our offers.

Now keep in mind this represents a VERY small percentage of my customers and they are largely dealt with nicely by my support staff. But often I am stuck dealing with the public marketplace replies.

My way of dealing with people is unconventional. I will quickly tell an asshole not to buy my product and often make him feel stupid by pointing out their inability to read. I can be sarcastic, mean and even fire customers who cause problems. How does that saying go? Treat others as you want to be treated.

I have even been referred to as the “Bully Marketer” by some people who can’t stand my style.

It would literally eat away at my soul if I had to kiss these peoples asses.

THAT’S why I started my own business.

I can’t take shit from people without fighting back. And guess what? I don’t have to follow any rules. I get to make my own. Yipeee!

The best news is this. Contrary to all the social media hippies that want us to think we have to be nice to everyone and sprinkle fairy dust around the world we DON’T have to be nice when people are being douche-bags.

Again, let me reiterate. I am only talking about people who have no manners when it comes to dealing with online sellers. If you email us for help and are polite or even just direct with your needs you will be helped. But if you send my staff a shitty email, or reply to one of my sales threads in an accusatory fashion you will feel my wrath.

I actually get messages from people who love my style of dealing with assholes. When people try to shit on me, I tend to eat spicy burritos and shit back WAY worse. It hasn’t hurt my business in the least. We are lucky to convert 3-5 out of every 100 people. We get to CHOOSE who those people are. And if 1% of them are assholes they can be fired without affecting your bottom line.

If you are reading this and thinking I am an asshole for treating angry people like garbage, you fall into the 95% of people who won’t buy anything from me. Now you know where you stand.

It’s music to my ears when someone tells me they have quit their day job and gone full time as an entrepreneur. About half my coaching clients are full time entrepreneurs and the other half are working towards full time status.

Paul is a smart guy. I won’t take credit for his success. He did the hard work, I just helped steer him based on my own experience

The funny thing is, to many people this is all made up bullshit, and nobody really makes money online. Paul knows different as many of us do

Why don’t you share your entrepreneur story below.

Have you managed to go full time yet?
Working on it?
What are you doing to get/stay full time?

I have been experimenting with a few new things lately. If you are on my mailing list you may have noticed.

For a long time people have told me that using 3 links in an email gets you more clicks than just one. I have seen about a 30% increase in my email clicks using this method. So I have been testing the following email structure with great success.

Paragraph
link 1
Paragraph
link 2
Paragraph
link 3

As you can see the first link gets the most clicks, followed by the last.

The reason that I think this works so well is that people who scroll through your email message see a link on every page. If they like what one of your paragraphs says, they will likely click the closest link. If it’s not there you may lose their attention forever.

Anyway I had proven that I can get more clicks using 3 links so now I want to see which link gets the most clicks. Last night I sent an email to my list and graphed the click-throughs of all 3 links. As you can see the top link gets the most clicks followed by the last. Hopefully this information helps your business.

I would love to hear your feedback on how many links to put in your emails. Leave your experience below.

Yesterday morning I woke up to find that my Fiverr.com account had been banned.

I have taken this personally even though I know I probably shouldn’t. The reason why is simple. I have been an extreme supporter of their service to the point where I recommended them to hundreds of people when I talk onstage at conferences, to my blog readers and even in my reports.

Now I feel like I may have steered people in the wrong direction. Which frankly makes me sick to my stomach.

What bothers me more than anything when this happens online is the lack of communication from the site that cuts you off. This has happened to me with PayPal in the past and I had to fight very hard just to find out why they banned me. Then I had to fight even harder to show them that they made a mistake.

Most often when you get banned from a website or a community it’s due to some kind of terms of service violation. Of course most people don’t read terms of service, I do. And for the most part I’m pretty good at not breaking rules. In this case I am to understand that they did a massive sweep of accounts. I was also told that gigs receiving lots of purchases are particularly flagged.

Either way, it’s pretty sad when a website holding your money just blocks you with no explanation as to why.

This leads me to guess the reasons. And that’s what you will see below, my educated guess as to why Fiverr.com banned me.

One of the problems with Fiverr.com is the lack of good quality writers. You simply can’t get great quality and consistency with article writing at five dollars. I’m sure some people will argue with me here but in my experience the best writers won’t touch low-budget.

That led me and one of my mastermind members Andy Beveridge to start a new website called WriteSwap.com. Now at first glance our website does look similar to Fiverr.com because it uses a similar content management system. No different to the way WordPress websites tend to look similar.

On Tuesday morning, I logged into my Fiverr.com account and started ordering five dollar articles and press releases to promote my new website. That collateral was to be given to a virtual assistant for link building purposes.

I’m thinking that they banned me because I’m running a competing website. Now obviously the main difference with my website is that we are only offering writing services and written content and we do not limit the pricing at five dollars. Clearly we are not a competitor or any threat to Fiverr.com.

I have sent a Facebook message to the CEO of Fiverr.com. He said that he is looking into my block but I have not heard back. I also tried their customer service desk and got no explanation except you have been blocked.

At this point my recommendation to you is this. If you plan to use Fiverr.com make sure you keep your account balance at an absolute minimum. Withdrawal your cash immediately.

Right now Fiverr.com is sitting on hundreds of dollars that belonged to me. Thankfully for me I don’t need that money and can wait for 45 days they require banned accounts to wait before withdrawing money. But I can’t help think about all the providers on Fiverr.com who use that money to buy groceries, pay rent etc.

When you own a business, you will have to deal with growing pains. The reality is the bigger you get, the more you will have to deal with this kind of thing.

I remember, 12 years ago I started a merchant account. Within a few months I had increased my volume a little. Then one day a customer wanted to pay me $5000 on his MasterCard. After running his card I received a phone call from my merchant bank. They were trying to verify the deal and they were suspicious because my customer’s bank was closed.

I had to explain to them that his bank was closed because they were in the UK and they were five hours ahead of us.

The woman at the bank said to me that they were going to hold my $5000 for 60 days because they were afraid I was going to “take the Money and run”.

I literally laughed out loud at this woman. And I said to her “how far do you think I could run with $5000?”

Nonetheless I was told I had to wait for my money to clear. When I called the woman back a few days later she had gone on vacation. I asked for her supervisor, asked her what she thought about her employees take the money and run scenario. She released my funds immediately.

This is one of my longer blog posts but the moral here is pretty simple. If someone tries to mess with your business by limiting your ability to do business, don’t take it lying down.

Now of course I have an easy solution. We own several accounts with fiverr.com and can easily fall back on one of them if we need to purchase cheap outsourcing. And in any situation where I have an account getting blocked, I will just go open another one.

Don’t ever let a third-party website throw a wrench into your business machine. Fight back, fight hard, fight to win. It’s your business after all.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Have you ever had an account blocked or banned? Did you let it affect your business? Did you take it personally?
